Practice Areas: Health Care Governmental Affairs Shari L. McCartney, director with Tripp Scott, focuses her practice on healthcare regulatory issues and governmental affairs. She has more than 10 years of experience representing physicians, group practices, hospitals, nursing homes and physician services providers in business and regulatory matters. McCartney served as senior counsel to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. In this role, McCartney negotiated the settlement of Medicare fraud cases brought under the Federal False Claims Act. In addition, McCartney was an attorney/advisor with the U.S. Social Security Administration, where she provided counsel to administrative law judges regarding the application of federal regulations, agency rulings, state and federal statutes and relevant legislation to disability benefits cases and Medicare provider appeals. She is an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Healthcare Compliance Association, and the health law sections of the Florida Bar and American Bar associations. McCartney holds a law degree from St. Thomas University , where she was an editor of Opinio Juris. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Florida.
