William Cotterall, an associate with Tripp Scott, focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, products liability, wrongful death, aviation law, and government relations.

Cotterall, an experienced trial attorney, practices at both the state and federal levels and has assisted in obtaining judgments and settlements in excess of one million dollars for firm clients.

Prior to joining Tripp Scott, Cotterall was an associate with an insurance defense firm where his primary area of practice was insurance fraud. As a law student, Cotterall interned with the Broward County State Attorney's Office where he worked in both the County Court and Career Criminal divisions.

Before practicing law, Cotterall worked for the Florida Legislature as a senior legislative aide in the Florida Senate. He worked closely withFlorida government agencies, Florida businesses and community leaders in drafting legislation and handling state budgetary issues. During this time, Cotterall collaborated with key members of the aerospace industry and Florida 's space program on legislative and economic development matters. Additionally, he was responsible for community and media relations initiatives.

In 2002, Cotterall wrote the article, Economy Class Syndrome: A First Class Liability, which was published in the ILAS Journal of International and Comparative Law. This was one of the first published notes on the legal issues of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in airline passengers.

Cotterall is a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers , Broward County Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Additionally, he is an appointee to and serves on the Florida Bar Aviation Law Committee.

Cotterall holds a law degree from St. Thomas University , where he was an articles editor for the St. Thomas Law Review. He also received the book award in Trial Advocacy Practice. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Florida State University with a minor in communications.
