Brady J. Cobb, an associate with Tripp Scott, focuses his practice in the areas of Commercial Litigation, with a focus on administrative law and government relations as well as land use and zoning. Among his notable cases are the 2010 challenge to Amendments 5 and 6 where he was on the team that represented the Florida Senate, and the successful challenge (one of a few in our nation’s history) by the Surfrider Foundation and the Eastern Surfing Association to a beach renourishment effort by the Town of Palm Beach. Additionally, he has litigated complex cases in both federal and state courts and routinely handles administrative and regulatory matters before state and local governmental agencies. He also specializes in assisting clients in the licensing and procurement process at both the state and local level and represents clients’ interests before the Florida Legislature and Executive Branch on a wide array of issues. Further, Cobb serves as outside general counsel to several companies and in that capacity provides the full range of business law services to those clients at a significant savings when compared to the cost of in house counsel.
Cobb has also developed acute expertise in the fields of charter education law and life insurance settlements. With respect to charter school education law, Cobb represents clients in the charter application process, the appeals process, charter contract negotiation with school districts as well as monitoring the ongoing state and federal compliance requirements for charter boards. In the field of life insurance settlements, Cobb has represented both brokers and providers in the licensure application process and in compliance/regulatory matters with state insurance departments across the United States. Additionally, he has represented the industry’s premier trade association; the Life Insurance Settlement Association, Inc. in legislative matters, litigation matters and also is a member of the associations External Affairs Committee. He also routinely represents industry participants in cases filed by life insurance carriers relative to alleged stranger originated life insurance (“STOLI”) and other forms of litigation filed by carriers that improperly seek to hamper the marketplace.
Prior to joining Tripp Scott, Cobb was an associate with an Orlando, Fla., law firm that specialized in civil rights and municipal defense. Active in the local community, Cobb is a member of the City of Fort Lauderdale Budget Advisory Board, is pro bono counsel for the Children Services Council and the Surfrider Foundation, and is active in charitable events and political fundraising on the local, state and federal level. Additionally, he is a member of the Broward Alliance and has been appointed to committees for organizations such as the Broward Workshop and the American Cancer Society.
Cobb holds a law degree from Barry University School of Law, where he was awarded the Book Award for earning the highest grade in White Collar Crime. During law school, he was vice-president of the Student Trial Advocacy Team, in which he competed in and placed in the top-five of several national mock trial competitions.
