B. George Walker, an associate with Tripp Scott, focuses his practice in the areas of complex commercial litigation, creditors’ rights, and labor and employment law. Walker also engages in a substantial amount of appellate work, and frequently drafts appellate briefs on behalf of clients.
Walker assists firm clients in all aspects of commercial litigation. Walker’s commercial litigation work includes a substantial amount of highly varied banking litigation. Some of Walker’s recent work includes assisting commercial banks in protecting lien rights on multi-million dollar loans; protecting the value of collateral through the appointment of receivers; engaging in banking litigation arising out of the collapse of one of the largest Ponzi schemes in recent U.S. history; and litigating on behalf of a bank to assert set-off rights to satisfy a multi-million dollar obligation. Other commercial litigation that Walker has recently been involved in includes multi-million dollar UCC Article 2 breaches of contract cases; breaches of commercial leases; and complex real estate litigation.
In the creditors’ rights area, Walker has experience analyzing multiple types of bankruptcy clawback exposure, such as fraudulent and preferential transfers, and preparing for the resolution of clawback issues through litigation or settlement. Walker also frequently represents lenders in Chapter 7 and 13 consumer bankruptcies. He is experienced in pursuing state court remedies on behalf of consumer lenders, such as writs of replevin; writs of bodily attachment; and post judgment collection work. Walker has also recently been involved in post judgment collection litigation asserting theories of veil piercing and alter ego liability in order to collect from affiliate and parent companies of a judgment debtor.
In the labor and employment field, Walker has been involved in Fair Labor Standards Act litigation, and advised clients on various aspects of the Fair Labor Standards Act. He has also drafted employment agreements, covenants against competition and has experience negotiating and litigating disputes over the same. Additionally, he has experience in the formation of new businesses, partnership agreements and joint ventures.
Before joining Tripp Scott, Walker served as a summer associate with the firm. While in law school, he also worked as a law clerk at Tripp Scott, was a teaching assistant at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center, and performed pro bono work at Legal Aid Service of Broward County. Walker was also an editor for the Nova Southeastern Law Review. He has had articles published in the Nova Law Review and the Florida Journal of Technology Law and Policy.
Walker graduated first in his class and holds a law degree, summa cum laude from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center. He was a recipient of the Goodwin Fellowship at law school, and earned numerous academic awards, including 14 book awards, the ALI-ABA Scholarship and Leadership Award, and the Student Bar Association Award for Academic Excellence. For his undergraduate studies, Walker attended American University in Washington, D.C. and received a bachelor's degree in international studies with an emphasis in U.S. foreign policy and a minor in history.
