Governor DeSantis Appoints Tripp Scott’s Jeffrey Wood to Children's Services Council of Broward County

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., February 25, 2020 – Tripp Scott today announced that Jeffrey Wood, a director with the law firm, was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Children's Services Council of Broward County to a four year term. Five of the eleven Board members are appointed by the governor from a list of candidates selected by Broward County’s Board of County Commissioners.

The Children's Services Council of Broward County (CSC) is an independent taxing authority established by voter referendum in 2000 and reauthorized in 2014. The CSC's mission is to provide leadership, advocacy, and resources necessary to enhance the lives of the children of Broward County and empower them to become responsible, productive adults through collaborative planning and funding of a continuum of quality care.

Wood has been practicing law in Broward County for 29 years. Wood devotes his practice to the areas of construction law, banking law, education law, non-profit law, real estate transactions and representing charter schools and related businesses. He also handles complex commercial litigation, business law and business transactions, and occasionally handles adoption matters.

One lesson that was certainly reinforced in 2021, amid political upsets and COVID wreckage, is that parents will engage to protect their children’s health and education against dictates from out-of-touch politicians and bureaucrats with records of vacillation and failure. The battle has become parental freedom vs. the self-interest of the teachers’ unions.

Urban League research correlates increased parental engagement with improved student academic achievement; better behavioral outcomes, emotional functioning and self-control within the classroom; increased attendance; lower dropout rates; and higher college enrollment.

The lawsuit began with plaintiff Aldo Di Sorbo’s claim that American Van Lines Inc. and defendant Anthony Di Sorbo defrauded the company by using a corporate loan to buy out other shareholders.
